COMPETITION GUIDELINES

​THEME
Overexposed 2016, with its theme, “Gaia: Nature Redesigned – Unearthing the Interaction of Engineering and Environment”, focuses on how the human society connect with the environment,
especially on the effects of engineering progress. 
COMPETITION OBJECTIVES
  • To capture the interaction between the engineering process and nature through the arts.
  • To showcase the talent of photographers nationwide.
  • To promote engineering and environmental awareness through photography.
REGISTRATION
Overexposed is a photography competition open to all people-  photographers, photographers-to-be, photo enthusiasts or generally creative persons with access to camera nationwide.
 
 Registration is FREE. 

COMPETITION MECHANICS
  1. Participants are tasked to take a photograph of their interpretation of the given theme.
  2. Entries must be the exclusive work of the contestant, and must not have been previously used in other photography competitions.
  3. Maximum number of entries per contestant is two (2).  However, a contestant may only win once.
  4. Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter, clearer, etc., but not to manipulate the content.
  5. The judges and UP CREST reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
  6. All contestants must submit the following requirements to overexposed@up-crest.org. (See section:  Submissions)
  7. Entries may be submitted starting November 20, 2016. Deadline of submission of entries is on January 13, 2017 Friday, 11:59 PM.
  8. All entries will be uploaded in the Overexposed Facebook page (facebook.com/upcrest.oex) for liking. Both the Facebook page and the entry must be “liked” in order to be counted as one “like”. Deadline of liking will be on January 24, 2017 (Tuesday) 11:59 pm. A special award awaits the entry with the most number of likes.
  9. Judging will be based on the given criteria.  The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable. (See section: Criteria)
  10. The top 10 photos will be exhibited at the University of the Philippines - Diliman from January 23-27, 2017 for the UP CREST WEEK.
  11. UP CREST has the full rights for publications and reproduction of the entries. (See section:  Rights)
SUBMISSIONS
All contestants must submit the following requirements to
 
overexposed@up-crest.org.
 SUBJECT: Overexposed 2016 Lastname <insert 1 or 2 for entry number>
Example: SUBJECT: Overexposed 2016 Dela Cruz 1
 
Attachments:                   
1. Raw image file in .JPEG format (300 ppi), maximum of 5mb
  • File name Format: <LastName>_<EntryNumber>_<Title>_Unedited.jpeg
  • Example: Dela Cruz_1_In the Land of the Rising Sun_Unedited.jpeg
 2. Digitally enhanced image (optional, you may opt to not enhance your raw image)
  • File name Format: <Last Name>_< Entry Number>_<Title of photo>
  • Example: Dela Cruz _1_In the Land of the Rising Sun.jpeg
 
3. Text document (preferably .doc / .txt) containing the following information:
  • Name, Address, Contact info (email address, landline and mobile number, etc.)
  • Title of the photo
  • Brief description of the photo (max of 100 words)
​RIGHTS
Upon submission of entry, UP CREST has the right during the Photo Contest to:
  1. Display the photograph on Overexposed online and public exhibits.
  2. Allow third-parties to share the photograph on social media platforms.
  3. Use the photograph on the Internet and in social Media in support of our mission.
  4. Use the photograph in UP CREST’s and Overexposed internal and external communications materials including but not limited to web sites and web publications, fact sheets, fund raising publications, advertising, multimedia, presentation and membership services, annual report and Overexposed magazine.
  5. Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, videos, membership premiums, and the like.
  6. Retain a digital copy of your photograph that will be archived.
Overexposed will endeavor to credit all photographs with the caption "Person's Name" when the full name is available.

 Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Composition ----------------------------  40%
  • Overall Impact --------------------------  10%

  • 1st Place: 5,000 Php
  • 2nd Place: 3,000 Php
  • 3rd Place: 2,000 Php
  • Most liked: Cash Prize + Freebies
  • Special Awards: To be chosen and awarded by our co-presenters
 
The top 3 will be recognized as the winners of the competition. The results will be announced during the awarding ceremony on January 25, 2017.  Winners will also be contacted via e-mail and mobile 3-5 days prior to the awarding ceremony to be held at Melchor Hall in UP Diliman.
